We certainly are a hair-conscious species. We absolutely LOVE to show off our long, gleaming locks and luscious lashes—and opt for hair and lash “extensions”. Yet, there are many other body parts where simply the sight of hair seems anything but HOT.
And for those parts… We’ve shaved. We’ve plucked. We’ve bleached. We’ve tweezed. We’ve waxed. We’ve threaded.
Now we have light based therapy – lasers and intense pulse light treatment to reduce that annoying hair.
At Jeunesse MedSpa® we have one the most powerful and effective medical grade FDA approved IPL machine , The Venus Versa™. The Venus Versa™ hair removal is a non-invasive procedure that removes unwanted and excess hair from areas of the body with an intensely powered light.
Designed for sensitive skins, the Venus Versa™ provide ultra-fast and comfortable treatments that permanently reduce hair growth and can be safely used on all skin types. Medical grade machines are much more powerful than beauty therapy grade machines, and so have a much better hair reduction result.
Our IPL treatment courses successfully removes every kind of unwanted dark hair. Treatments are suitable for both men and women of all skin types, including dark skin. Common treatment areas include : IPL targets pigment in the hair to disable the hair follicles, and therefore will not be effective on white, very light grey or fair blonde hair. To best understand how IPL works for hair removal, you need to understand a bit about hair growth The growth of hair on the human body is not as simple as it may first seem. Each hair grows from a structure in the skin called a hair follicle. At the very bottom of the follicle is a group of germination cells from which the growth of all hair begins. Each individual hair follicle has its own cycle of growing(ANAGEN), falling out (CATAGEN) and resting (TELOGEN). The cycle’s length varies on different parts of the body, e.g upper lip cycle is completed in around 5 months while the leg hair cycle takes 1 year ! BODY PART TELOGEN CATAGEN CYCLE DURATION Upper lip 6 weeks 2-3 weeks 5 months Chin 3 months 1-2 weeks 14 months Armpit 3 weeks 2-3 weeks 5 months Groin 3 months 2-3 weeks 8 months Arms 4 months 2-3 weeks 10 months Legs 6 months 3-6 weeks 11-12 months There can be as many as 500 hair follicles or more, per square centimetre of skin, but only 10% (or 50) may actually be growing at any one time. For this reason you may actually have more hair in the area you wish to be treated than you ever realized, particularly if you have been plucking on a regular basis. If you pluck your hair today it will take 6 to 12 weeks for it to appear on the surface again. It is physically impossible for it to appear sooner. So you will see, that hair that you might have thought was growing back two weeks after treatment with waxing or with other methods, was in fact a hair from another follicle. Intense pulse light ( IPL) works by using light energy to heat up the hair follicles in the skin during the growth phase and when enough heat is produced, the follicle is destroyed preventing re-growth of the hair. It is a very safe and effective process, with many people seeing between 80-90% less hair growth after a course. Hair grows in staggered cycles. While the IPL disables the hair follicle in the active growth phase, previously dormant follicles can assume growth after the treatment. Hence, a few treatment sessions will be required for optimal results. Results of hair reduction treatment can be noticed after a few treatments. The number of sessions you require for best results will depend on the density, thickness and colour of your hair, your skin colour, your hair growth cycle and the area of the body you are treating. A course of 6 to 8 treatments is usually required, at approximately 4 to 8 weeks’ intervals depending on the site of treatment. With each session, you will notice 4’F’s – significantly fewer, finer and fairer (less visually obvious) hair that grows at a much slower rate (farther intervals). IPL Hair reduction is relatively permanent but does depend on genetics, the area treated and hormonal influences and more treatments may be required and in some cases on going, periodic, maintenance treatments. Our IPL system features innovative cooling elements to ensure the procedure is as comfortable as possible. You may feel a slight prickly warm sensation during treatment. People generally use the term laser and ipl interchangeably, however that’s correct. Lasers only have one particular wave length of light whereas IPL has a spectrum of light Refrain from further plucking, threading , bleaching or waxing for at least 6 weeks before treatment. Do not suntan and minimise sun exposure prior to treatment —use a good quality broad spectrum sunscreen. There is no downtime and you can get back to normal activities straight away. It’s best to avoid direct sun exposure. Apply sunscreen diligently on any treated areas that are sun-exposed. Adverse reactions are very rare. In fact IPL hair removal is a very safe procedure when carried out by professionals with years of experience in this field IPL Hair reduction is known to have no long term side effects. Some of the temporary may include itching, redness or swelling around the treated area. These normally last for a couple of days. There are rare cases of acne & skin discolouration which gets settled in few months. Many clinics are reluctant to treat darker skin because of the specific skills and technology required as well as the risks of burns and hyper-pigmentation, however the experience of our practitioners combined with the technology we use means this is not a problem for us. We only use effective technologies, and to ensure safe, effective results, we always test your suitability for any of our IPL treatments.
IPL usually has a large hand piece allows for rapid “fuzz” free treatment.
It is normal to notice some successfully treated coarser hairs seemingly “growing” as they are extruded by your skin over the week after treatment before being permanently eliminated. These stubbles can be shaved off.
