Sweating is a perfectly normal body response to regulate our temperature. It helps us cool down. Some of us sweat a little too much which may mean you have hyperhidrosis. Hyperhidrosis is the medical term for excess sweating. “Hidrosis” simply means sweating and “hyper” means more.
There are two types of hyperhidrosis :
Primary hyperhidrosis:
also called idiopathic
inherited
usually focal, affecting the soles, palms, and axillae in various combinations and with varying degrees of severity
Secondary Hyperhidrosis
can be generalized or focal
caused by behaviours (e.g. alcoholism), responses (e.g. neurologic responses such as anxiety), a medical condition (e.g. thyroid , diabetes, obesity, menopause), or perhaps medication
Excess sweating can be a nuisance and cause embarrassment. Excess foot sweating can lead to a buildup of bacteria and cause smelly feet.
There are many options to treat Excessive sweating, but it does depend on the site :
• Antiperspirant: strong antiperspirant such as Driclor can be used to reduce sweating, but can cause skin irritation in some people.
• Iontophoresis – this involves placing the hands or feet in in an electrically charged water. It is considered first-line therapy for hand and feet sweating. It requires repeated treatment.
• Wrinkle relaxer injections used normally for facial wrinkles can be injected in areas such as the underarms/hands. The average duration of effect is 8 months.
• Surgery – a procedure is known as an ‘Endoscopic thoracic sympathectomy (ETS)’ This is a keyhole procedure and needs to be performed under anaesthetic. The surgery involves ablating the nerve that supplies the sweat glands in the hands. It can, however, result in compensatory sweating elsewhere after the surgery is performed

At Jeunesse MedSpa® we offer wrinkle relaxer products to reduce excessive sweating.
The commonest area treated for hyperhidrosis with wrinkle relaxers is the underarms, but hand and feet treatment are also options. Facial sweating can also be reduced with wrinkle relaxer injections.
The exact mechanism of action is not exactly known. It is thought that wrinkle relaxers injections temporary block a chemical in the body that stimulates the sweat glands. In other words, wrinkle relaxers can stop your sweat glands from being ‘told’ to sweat. Most patients notice results 4 to 5 days after receiving treatment.
The full effects of the treatment develop over 2-3 days and 95% of patients have responded in just 1 week.
Over time, the nerve endings of the sweat glands regrow, so from the 4th month some very mild sweating will return. As more and more nerve endings grow back so the sweating will start to increase again. The effect of Botox® injections on sweating can last 3-8 months. Once all the nerve endings have regrown, re-treatment will be required to produce the same effect.
Most patients present annually in early spring for their treatments .
After an initial assessment and planning consultation, your treatment appointment will be booked for 60 minutes. A sweat test is done, with a mixture of iodine and corn starch, to assess the exact area that requires treatment, which is marked out with a skin marker. Topical numbing cream in applied is applied for 15 -30 minutes. The area is then cleansed thoroughly. A series of tiny superficial injections are placed into the treatment area.
We are committed to your safety. Every time you visit us, you can be certain that you’re in safe hands.
Generally, there are minimal side effects with wrinkle relaxer injections treatment for hyperhidrosis. They are usually temporary. The most common side effects are bruising, swelling and redness at the injection sites. Other side effects may include a perceived increase in sweating in areas other than the underarms, pain at the injection site, pain, hot flushes, and transient arm weakness.
Why should I choose Jeunesse MedSpa® as my provider of hyperhidrosis treatment?
Our doctors at Jeunesse MedSpa® will provide a full medical assessment of your condition, and then advise the appropriate treatment.
Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) is a medical condition. Our doctor here at Jeunesse Medspa® will provide a full medical assessment of the condition, and then advise the appropriate treatment. In severe cases, sweating significantly exceeds the body’s normal requirements for cooling – sometimes four to five times more than is necessary or normal. Hyperhidrosis can affect both men and women and commonly affects the underarms, hands, feet and back.
This extreme sweating can be embarrassing, uncomfortable, stressful and disabling.
One of the treatments we offer is an injectable procedure that helps control the symptoms of severe underarm sweating, by temporarily blocking the chemical signals from the nerves that stimulate the sweat glands. When the sweat glands do not receive the chemical signal they cease sweating. One session is normally all that’s required and the effects can last up to 7 months
